It matters not whether you win or lose; what matters is whether I win or lose.
- Darrin Weinberg

  This Too Shall Pass
Since my first glance at the first screenshots on the first Myth movie on the first Myth webpage I ever saw, I wanted to be involved in Myth and from the first character of the first tag on the first page of my first Myth website I have been extremely lucky and have gotten to be involved. I was selected to be a slamfester where I played with prominent players like Trout, who hosted my first game, Bastian, who captained my first team game, or Loki, who beat me silly at every opportunity. I even played with Celer Manus Dei, who tolerated me and was nice to me even though I had no idea that he was _the_ Jason Jones.

Since that time, I have made some good contacts, I have learned quite a bit about several interesting projects, I have been privy to some important plans and I have gathered quite a bit of information through friendly contacts, formal announcements, private meetings, careful eavesdropping, blatant bluffing, accidental discovery and latent physchic abilities. One thing that everyone knows is that there are a lot of people angry at bungie's silence and there is a lot of criticism directed at bungie's apparent inaction. What very few people know is the extent of bungie's commitment to Myth and the amount of effort they are expending to address the concerns of their customers. I cannot tell you many of the things that I am basing this editorial on, but I can tell you this one fact about this time of unrest and frustration. Take heart, my friends, this too will pass. Bungie is quiet, but they are not inactive, things seem to be slowing, but they are just getting started. This time is very transitional and there are many problems and divisive issues, but, I am not frustrated, I am expectant.

You are frustrated because bungie seems so silent and aloof. Take heart, my friends, this too will pass. Bungie is in a transitional state. They are hiring lots of new employees, they are moving to the penthouse suite of a skyscraper in Chicago, they are establishing a sister company, Bungie West, and they are working very hard on several major projects. They are silent because they are so busy and, if you take my advice, you will wait patiently. They have not abandoned us, they are doing even more than I had previously guessed for their fans...they just need to work on their PR...heh

You are upset because the ranking system is a joke. A convicted cheater heads the leaderboard and it isn't fair. Take heart, my friends, this too will pass. I personally have considered abandoning the ranking system and encouraging others to do the same, because it is so frustrating. However, I am glad I waited, because some of the measures bungie is taking will make it a useful system again! The free drops (Tangent. I didn't demand that everyone immediately start calling them "mulligans" I just suggested that it was a more accurate word, considering how they were intended to be used. Call them whatever you want...sheesh!) are just the beginning, and some of the plans that bungie has to clean up b.net are truly wicked. I have never seen such a brilliant use of peer pressure by a corporation before...heh Bungie's plans will very likely make the ranking system an accurate reflection of relative skill again, something I long ago deemed impossible.

You are despairing because you are sure that no system will ever stop the cheaters completely. There will always be loopholes. Take heart, my friends, this too will pass. The admins are getting more tools to stop the cheaters and the creeps. Not only are we getting nifty gizmos like gags to stop lameness as it happens, we are getting more powerful investigation tools involving the game logs so that we can find cheaters and kick them off b.net...permanently. The admin motto is "Cleaning up bungie.net, one lamer at a time" and with these new tools, we will actually be able to do it!

You're bored because you have been playing the same maps for ages and bungie has not made any decisions about what they are going to do about 3rd party maps. Take heart, my friends, this too will pass. Really folks, you should have been able to figure this one out for yourselves. Bungie made Marathon, the most versatile and modular game ever constructed. There were literally thousands of maps made for Marathon, as well as several clones and total conversions. Many hexers have found Myth to be even more customizable than Marathon. A few prominent third party map makers are no longer complaining about not hearing from bungie, admins are being asked to test the effects of hexed maps on b.net, and bungie is still supporting the efforts of map editor makers. You even know why bungie hasn't allowed them on yet. They have said outright that some hexed maps cause problems with the server and there were some bugs that needed to be squashed. Yes, that was actually the truth, don't be so cynical. Even if I didn't have even more proof from nameless sources, that would be enough for me.

You are ticked off because bungie doesn't seem to be promoting Myth anymore. Take heart, my friends, this too will pass. I have corresponded with some very reliable sources that have told me about some of bungie's plans, and I was stunned. Bungie must have made a heck of a lot of money on Myth, because some of their promotion plans are incredible! I even made a suggestion that might be incorporated into them that would make them even more massive and fantastic.

You are anxious to hear about their next project and are disappointed by their silence. Take heart, my friends, this too will pass. Bungie is preparing to make a major announcement very soon about a new project and believe me, it is no Microwave Emulator. (shhh...I think I hear Tiny the Trow outside...)

I realize that I have hinted at much and revealed little, but the reason I get CC'd into so many emails because I can keep secrets. This is just a little assurance that much is being done, that some fantastic things are coming and Myth is still approaching its peak. Way back during the slamfest, on the now departed Grimoire, in the now obsolete "Case's Log" I made a statement about the coming release of Myth. I make that statement again after seeing what bungie, bungie's promotional department, 3rd party developers and the Myth community can expect from the future. YOU ARE NOT READY.
