You can get more with a kind word and a gun than you can with a kind word alone.

  The Heavenly Host
We don't need ready buttons, we don't need penalties for host droppers, we don't need to make rank dependent on the variety of games played, we don't need to disband all orders, we don't need to suspend people from bungie.net for having two accounts and we don't need to be offended by crass morons. What we need is good, honest, fun hosts.

Think about it. A heavenly host doesn't jumpstart. He greets everyone as they enter the game, he explains what kind of game it will be, and he warns people when he is about to start. He respects people when they ask him to wait before starting and he never forces people to play on uneven teams. A heavenly host doesn't drop from a game he is losing, nor does he need to, because he is there to make sure that the players have a good time. A heavenly host doesn't play one game over and over, so that he can feel confident of victory, he plays a huge variety of games, allowing each player to choose occasionally so that everyone has a chance to play the games they enjoy the most. A heavenly host doesn't pick on collected rabble, using his order to pad his score. He plays evenly matched teams, challenging games instead of boring ones.

A heavenly host doesn't allow cheaters. He makes sure that all of his players are honest, so that everyone can have fun. He doesn't put up with offensive and agravating morons, because there are good, interesting players that are always waiting to get into his games.

What we need, folks, is more hosts like this. Not a patch, not a new scoring system, not special rooms or passworded games. I suggest that instead of just jumping into the game with the lowest ping, you take the time to carefully select a game, and then stick with a good host for as long as you can. This will ensure that you won't get mugged, cheated, screwed or abused, and it also makes for a very fun game series. (Note: Throughout this post I have used the word "he." This does not mean that no women can be heavenly hosts, but that the English language has no genderless pronoun and I refuse to sacrifice pithy phrasing to please hyper-sensitive political movements.)
